Dragonfire/Drexel University                          Managing Editor|June 05-present

Helped site traffic grow from a few hundred readers per issue to nearly 10,000 at this online magazine of news and culture based at Drexel University. Shape content, oversee re-design, and manage the editorial team, including editors, writers, and editorial assistants. Helped build and launch Dragonfire.

Landed several positive press placements of an Archaeological conference in Philadelphia during this freelance position.

 

WHYY                                         Reporter/Producer| September 01-November 04

Produced regular feature stories for this public radio station, resulting in 4 awards, including an Edward R. Murrow honor. Trained and managed up to 10 interns at a time to keep the newsroom functioning smoothly. Broke several local stories, beating out competitive stations. Developed numerous contacts who began to feed stories directly to WHYY.

 

The Collaborative                                         Assistant Director| October 04-July 05

Developed new events for this young Jewish professionals group, resulting in a 30% boom in membership. Overhauled the group’s image by creating a streamlined look and developing youth-oriented language for the website, brochure, and newsletter.  Oversaw all communications and promoted the group through local media outlets, leading to several positive press exposures. Designed and maintained website. This was an 11-month, grant funded position.

 

WILM                                                            Reporter/Anchor| March 02-February 03

Produced this AM newsradio station’s only award-winning feature story of 2002. Expanded coverage from hard news only to include feature pieces like my series about rising Heroin use in Delaware. Developed numerous contacts who began to alert WILM to breaking stories.

 

American Red Cross                HIV-AIDS Educator| December 01-September 03

Developed an individual style to teach adults and children about safe sex in an approachable manner, leading to letters of recognition and requests to return to several classes and groups.

 

The Smithsonian                               Summer Camp Director|May 00-September 00

Created a physical activity program that brought children of all ages and interests together. Implemented new communications tools for parents and counselors, greatly reducing confusion about procedures, regulations, and changes. Managed all staff, including teachers and counselors.

 

Peabody Essex Museum                                    Museum Educator| may 99-dec 99

Planned, coordinated, and managed the museum’s largest annual income generating festivity, eerie events. Developed two new colonial-era historic house tours, generating increased summer tour purchases.
